SoCal Universities play an important role as positive change agents for Southern California. Dr. Sri Sundaram is the Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Cal State Fullerton and he'll explain how a high-quality education to a diverse student body and engagement with community partners addresses local issues and drives economic and social progress. Societal impact is the effect of education in the real world – a change or benefit beyond academia to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, and the environment or quality of life. Universities have an important part to play in the regeneration of local economies around the World through their direct spending, providing the skilled workers required by businesses, and boosting innovation through entrepreneurship and links with local firms.
California State Senator Josh Newman is a dedicated advocate for California's diverse communities and in this keynote talk, he will explore the unique challenges and opportunities that are facing entrepreneurs in California's shifting economic landscape. Economic growth and recovery are driven by entrepreneurs and small businesses. To create growth and recovery, collaboration is needed between the private sector (entrepreneurs and small businesses along with federal, state, and local government to provide the consumer what they need. When all is said and done, consumers make it happen, but consumer preferences continue to evolve and certainly, Covid-19 has forever changed consumer preferences.
"It" all begins with an idea, a team, and creativity! Join in on an engaged and adventurous panel of startup colleagues. The session will provide a deep dive opportunity to learn more from founders and their journey in moving from an idea to a possibility to launch. Where did the idea begin and what are the first steps to get going? Bring your interest, questions, and experiences to learn more and contribute to the conversation.
In this session, we have the chance to ask investors what they are looking for in a potential opportunity. Come find out from them how you might prepare your pitch, hear about emerging investment areas of today, and gain a deeper understanding of the markets you are interested in. We will ask them about their areas of interest and expertise and also discuss standout qualities that show potential or (in their absence) raise concerns about a new venture.
While entrepreneurs are sometimes called the "engine" of the economy and investors are called the "wheels" of the economy, what about all the individuals and firms that provide sage advice and services to facilitate and help navigate the business landscape for entrepreneurs - might they be the "transmission"? Take a "ride" in this panel discussion session with those experts that provide critical business structure, tax, legal, financial, operational, marketing, and other advice to move entrepreneurs all the way from pre-formation through exit.
Join us as we celebrate Southern California student entrepreneurs in a fast pitch! Each team will have 90 seconds to pitch and receive expert feedback, coaching, and win a prize package of cash and crucial in-kind business support services to launch and grow their ventures.
